July 3rd, 2007

Opening: Vice President Eric Wahlberg called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. No new members were present. Linda Horstick determined that a quorum was present.

Minutes: Barb Taggart made a motion that the minutes from the June 5, 2007, meeting should be accepted and it was seconded by Jim Horstick. The Board approved.

Treasurer: Barb Taggart shared a positive summary of our financial status. She also stated that a $10,000 check from our account has been deposited into the state treasury program. This initiates the approval process. A complete written treasurer’s report was available for examination.

Membership: Rick Geiner reported that our membership totals 389, with 3 new members, 0 transfers in, 2 transfers out, and 14 nonrenewals.

Website/Newsletter: Don Hollway was not present, so there was no report. The deadline for the August newsletter will be July 10, 2007.

Social: lAl Peinhardt reported that plans for the Crab Feast are on target. He reminded the members that we need to think about who should be appointed as his successor on the social committee at the end of the year. In addition, he stated that the chef’s buffet is now be available to us at the meetings. The cost is slightly less than it had been to serve the sausage and accompaniments.

Jerry Trone reported that a dozen people have signed up for the polo event on July 22. He described the event and encouraged more members to join them.

Deny Gilbert shared that twenty couples will be joining him on July 14 for the Finger Lakes wineries tour. The tour will begin at 9:30 AM from the Gilbert’s NY place.

Linda Horstick circulated a congratulatory card and note that would be given to the Liederkranz in observance of their 127th anniversary. All members that were present signed the greeting.

Tech: Jon Yetter was unable to attend so no update was shared. However, Max Crawford spoke of the great time he had at a Formula One race in Indiana. He participated in some activities with a PCA group there, and expressed how welcoming they were. He encouraged others to seek out clubs in other regions during travels.

Safety: Deny Gilbert reported that Paul Hess will be replacing him as the chairman of the safety committee. He felt that it was a conflict of interest for him to be both the autocross chairman and the safety chairman. All insurance certificates for the events through July have been secured.

Autocross: Deny reported that there were 45 participants at the last autocross. Deny is in the process of finding trophies for the winning drivers. There was a discussion about what information should be engraved, whether the awards should be trophies or plaques, and what style/material the awards should be. Samples might be shown at the August meeting.

Driver Education: Justin Fried was absent and there was no report.

Swap Meet: Steve Baun was absent and there was no report. However, a member expressed his concern about leadership positions. If an executive or chairperson would be unable to fulfill his/her related duties, is there enough information known by other members to carry on with those responsibilities? There was also some concern expressed that the swap party has not been scheduled yet, and that it should be held ASAP after the event.

Another member shared that he has belonged to another organization that prepares chairperson’s planning guides for that group’s activities. He suggested that this might be an option for our club to consider. Their guides contain the information that would be needed by a successor to proceed with activities and events if a leader would be unable to continue with their duties.

Vice-President: Eric had no additional information to share.

Old Business: The clothing and accessories store is now open on the web. You can access the site through a link on our club’s home page. Please support our region with your patronage of the store.

New Business: Jerry Trone proposed that we organize a caravan to the International Gold Cup, which is a steeple chase in Virginia. The event is October 20, 2007, and is partly sponsored by PCNA. There will be a tent sheltering vintage Porsches, and roped in parking for our cars will be adjacent to the tent. Eric suggested that we ask Don Hollway to prepare an email blast and to include an article in the newsletter. Members from the Potomac and Chesapeake regions have also expressed their interest to Jerry.

Next Meeting: Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at the Lancaster Liederkranz, 6:30 PM for social, meeting at 7:00 PM. All members are welcome to attend.

Meeting Adjourned: 8:05 PM.

Respectfully Submitted,
