Forget about rain, wind and cold. April 28, was a perfect day for The Swap Meet and the People’s Choice Concours. It was such a nice day that many people questioned if they were really in Hershey for the CPA Swap Meet. It is amazing what a little warmth and sunshine can do to enhance the attendance for this event. Last year twenty-two brave souls weathered the storm to display their cars in the concours. A little sunshine brought out fifty-seven Porsches this year, with some very unique models shown. When was the last time you saw a 911 RSR? How about one of the four 968 RS models ever made? Each class had at least three entrants, a first for the concours.

Thanks to the 968 Celebration taking place in Hershey the same weekend, we had fourteen of them show their cars. There was also a separate 968 Corral for those who chose not to enter the concours and many of them were so nice they should have been on the judged side of the fence.

Participants came from far and wide. In addition to the usual cars from Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey, others came from Michigan, Ohio, New York, Virginia, Ohio, North Carolina and Canada. But the long distance award went to one of the 968 Celebration members who drove over 1,700 miles from Texas. So, what’s you excuse for not having your car in the People’s Choice Concours?

The first twenty-five entrants received goodie bags with various car care products. Also, Grassroots Motorsports magazine provided some goodies for all participants.

The class winners were:

Will we have a nice sunny, dry weekend for The Swap Meet next year? I certainly hope so, since it is evident that nice weather brings out nice cars. I would like to see more participation from our membership too. For only $10.00 you get a great parking spot, a goodie bag and the opportunity to win a trophy.

I have to thank those who volunteered to help with the Peoples Choice Concours. Joe Rausa, Paul Hess, Mike Chronister and Bettie Peinhardt made this event run smoothly. This group has been working together for a few years and I owe them a lot of thanks for making my life easier.
